Romanian language courses for foreign employees and expats

In an increasingly international labor market, the Romanian language is becoming an essential tool for integration, safety, collaboration, and performance in the workplace.
International House Bucharest offers Romanian language courses for foreigners, dedicated to companies that employ expats, relocated staff, non-EU workers or international teams. Our programs help foreign employees communicate more easily in professional and social contexts, better understand the local culture and adapt more quickly to life and work in Romania.

Important legislative context for employers

GEO 32/2026 introduces additional obligations for employers who employ foreign citizens on Romanian territory. These include the provision of Romanian language courses that include elements of cultural and social integration, under certain conditions provided for by law.

Open Romanian language course for foreigners – starting June 8

For companies that need a fast, flexible and easy-to-implement solution, International House Bucharest is launching a new open Romanian language course for foreigners.

This format is suitable for expats, international employees, relocated staff or foreign professionals who need the first practical communication tools in Romanian.

Who is the open course suitable for?

The course is suitable for companies that have foreign employees and want to offer them a structured first step in learning the Romanian language. It is an effective solution for employees who need to cope better with everyday interactions, simple conversations at work and basic social situations.

For companies that need more extensive programs, over an extended period, with more hours per week or with progress reporting, we can build a customized corporate program.

Why the Romanian language matters for companies

For international employees, integration doesn't just start with an employment contract. It starts with the ability to understand the people, rules, culture, and everyday communication in Romania.

A foreign employee learning Romanian can:

communicate more easily with the local team;
adapt more quickly to life in Romania;
better understand instructions and work context;
feel more confidence, autonomy and belonging;
interact with authorities, suppliers, colleagues or customers;
contribute more effectively to the company's objectives.

For the employer, language training is not just an educational benefit. It is an investment in integration, retention, operational safety, and intercultural collaboration.

Our methodological principles:

What our students say

Interview with His Excellency, former Ambassador of Sweden to Bucharest, Mr. Anders Bengtcen

Former Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bucharest, Mr. Martin Harris

Speech by His Excellency, former Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bucharest, Mr. Paul Brummell

International House Bucharest aligns itself with these teaching standards through its membership in the International House World Organisation, but also in EAQUALS (European Association for Quality Language Services), an organization that provides advice to the Council of Europe on foreign language issues.

"We went from basic conversations to real discussions."
"I came to Romania for a two-year project and I didn't initially intend to learn the language. After a few months of classes at IH, I realized how much the team dynamics had changed. Informal meetings, jokes, spontaneous discussions – all became accessible. The course is very practical and oriented towards real situations in the professional environment."
Mike F., IT Project Manager (Dutch speaking only)
Professionalism and clear structure
"We recommended the Romanian language courses for expats in our company. We appreciated the initial assessment, the clearly defined objectives, and the progress reporting. For us, as an HR department, it mattered that the program was well organized and adapted to the business context."
Jonathan P., HR Business Partner
"I felt safe to make mistakes."
"The most important thing for me was the atmosphere. The teachers are patient, very well-trained, and create a space where you can speak without fear of making mistakes. I gained confidence, not just vocabulary."
Luca M., Financial consultant
Real integration, not just lessons
"The cultural integration workshop was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't just about the language, but about how things work here – from indirect communication to social customs. It helped me adapt much faster."
Sophie R., Marketing Specialist
Visible results for the company
"After six months of the course, the difference is clear: our international colleagues interact more naturally with local partners. The impact is visible in operational efficiency and team cohesion. IH is a strategic partner, not just a course provider."
Daniel K., Country Manager

    Yes. The schedule is mutually agreed upon, based on the availability of the students. For companies, we can organize sessions before or after work hours, in a hybrid format or exclusively online.
